Beltangady: Wild elephant attack claims life of local resident in Sautadka

Beltangady, Jul 17: A tragic incident unfolded in the forests of Southadka Gundi, Kokkada village in Beltangady taluk, where a 60-year-old man lost his life following an attack by a herd of wild elephants.

The deceased has been identified as Balakrishna, a resident of Sautadka. The unfortunate event occurred around 11 am on Thursday when a group of villagers attempted to drive away a herd of wild elephants that had strayed into the area. In the ensuing chaos, the elephants turned aggressive, resulting in the fatal attack on Balakrishna.

His body has been shifted to the Beltangady Government Hospital for postmortem. Officials from Dharmasthala police station, forest department, and local gram panchayat rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation.

Forest officials have urged the public to exercise extreme caution in elephant-prone zones and assured that necessary legal procedures are being followed. Further investigations are underway.
