BRS turmoil deepens: K Kavitha hits out at 'Lilliput Leader', hints at internal sabotage

Hyderabad, Aug 3: In a dramatic escalation of internal discord within the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), party MLC K Kavitha launched a scathing attack on senior leaders of her own party, accusing them of orchestrating a smear campaign against her and attempting to sideline her politically.

At a press conference held in Hyderabad, Kavitha expressed anguish over what she described as “inappropriate personal remarks” made by fellow MLC Chintapandu Naveen, popularly known as Teenmaar Mallanna. She alleged that the comments were not made in isolation, but with the support and encouragement of powerful insiders within the party.

"I have authentic information that those comments were made with the support of some insiders in the party," she declared, visibly distressed. "The silence of my BRS 'brothers', despite public outrage, only exposes their stand towards me."

Without naming names initially, Kavitha accused a "Lilliput leader from Nalgonda" of being behind the attempt to isolate her politically — a remark widely interpreted to be aimed at senior BRS leader and former minister G Jagadish Reddy.

"Will the Lilliput leader, who led the party to defeat in Nalgonda, dare to question me?" she challenged. "If not for KCR, who is he even? Who leaked my letter to KCR?"

The mention of Nalgonda is significant, as the BRS suffered a major electoral setback in the district during the last assembly polls — a loss Kavitha has now pinned on the very leaders she accuses of undermining her.

Kavitha, daughter of BRS chief and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, did not hold back in her warning: "Your efforts to isolate me will be repaid — I believe in karma."

In a move that could further strain ties within the party, she lodged complaints with the Legislative Council Chairperson and the state Director General of Police regarding the remarks made by Mallanna.

Amid the political storm, Kavitha also announced a 72-hour hunger strike at Dharna Chowk, Indira Park, demanding 42% reservation for Backward Classes in education, employment, and local bodies. “It will be a peaceful, Gandhian protest,” she said, calling out the Congress-led state government for failing to act on two pending bills passed by the Telangana Assembly and Council.

"The government promised to lead an all-party delegation to Delhi for getting Central approval. But they’ve only resorted to rhetoric," she said. She also questioned why the state had not taken the legal route if the bills were stuck for over three months, pointing to Tamil Nadu’s example.

With the Telangana High Court directing the state government to hold local body elections by September 30, Kavitha argued that ensuring the promised BC quota is just as urgent. "If elections are held without increasing the reservation, it will be an injustice to the backward communities," she warned.

Kavitha’s remarks, believed to also target her brother and BRS working president K T Rama Rao, have widened the visible cracks within the party and are likely to deepen the internal power struggle in the days to come.
