New Delhi, Aug 3: In a development that has stirred political curiosity, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah met President Droupadi Murmu separately at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday.
While official sources have not revealed the purpose of the meetings, their timing amid continued disruptions in Parliament has led to heightened speculation. Both meetings were confirmed through brief posts by Rashtrapati Bhavan on social media platform ‘X’.
This was Prime Minister Modi’s first meeting with the President following his recent visits to the United Kingdom and Maldives. The meetings come at a time when Parliament has been witnessing repeated adjournments due to the Opposition’s demand for a debate on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Bihar.
The Lok Sabha has approved the extension of President’s Rule in Manipur for another six months, but the Rajya Sabha is yet to take up the motion. The visit to Rashtrapati Bhavan also follows the resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on July 21 due to health reasons. The Election Commission has announced that the election for a new vice president will be held on September 9.
Neither the Prime Minister’s Office nor the Home Ministry has issued a statement regarding the agenda of the meetings.
