Mohali, Aug 6: A powerful explosion rocked the Industrial Area Phase 9 of Mohali on Wednesday morning, killing two workers and injuring three others at an oxygen-manufacturing unit. The blast occurred inside the premises of High Tech Gases Private Limited, a company known to supply medical oxygen to PGI Chandigarh and other regional hospitals.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate Damandeep Kaur confirmed the tragic deaths of 28-year-old Asif and another worker identified as Devinder. The injured have been rushed to the hospital for treatment, while authorities are still assessing the extent of the damage.

The impact of the blast was so intense that windows of the administration block and neighbouring structures were shattered. Locals described a horrifying scene, with mutilated body parts lying around and oxygen cylinders scattered across the site. Some debris even landed in Kambala village, nearly a kilometre away.

Police did not rule out the possibility of a gas leak leading to the explosion and swiftly evacuated nearby buildings as a precaution. Around 25 employees were inside the unit at the time of the incident.

Firefighters, police personnel, and medical teams promptly arrived at the spot and undertook relief and rescue operations. A probe has been launched to determine the exact cause of the explosion.

The shocking incident has raised serious concerns over industrial safety protocols, especially in units dealing with highly inflammable gases.
