Mangalore, Feb 3: All those who were demanding Yeshwanthpur - Karwar train stop at Suratkal have a reason to celebrate, as their dream has been realised now. From Thursday February 2 onwards, the train will halt at Suratkal at 10 pm while departing to Bangalore from Karwar, and at 6.30 pm on the way back from Bangalore to Karwar.
The train runs on Bangalore-Karwar route on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and from Karwar to Bangalore on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
The Suratkal stop is considered as 'temparary' arrangement for six months. If this stop is used effectively during this period, it will be converted into a permanent one.
Political 'War' for Credit :
As expected, the 'war' has already begun over who should take the credit for this move. Whenever there is fresh demand, or the need to address a problem faced by the people, no political party comes forward to solve the issue. But when something has been achieved, everyone is ready to claim the credit !
It is no different this time too.
According to Vijay Kumar Shetty, former MLA from Suratkal, supported by Mohiuddin Bava, youth congress leader from Suratkal Abdul Sattar, NSUI's Supraraj Malli, Sandesh Shetty, Hasanabba, Husain Katipall, Purushottam, Sulochana V Rao, were the first to celebrate the news by distributing sweets to people at Suratkal train station.
Speaking to daijiworld, Vijay Kumar Shetty said that they have been demanding the stop for Suratkal for long. "We met railway minister of state Muniyappa several times and submitted a memorandum to facilitate the stop. Our demand has been heard, we have also protested with the help of locals many times. This is our victory," he said.
On the other hand, member of parliament for Mangalore Nalin Kumar Kateel informed daijiworld that he has been constantly in touch with railway minister Muniyappa to provide a halt at Suratkal, and the facility has been granted because of his request, he said. He also urged the people of the area to use the stop effectively, so that it would be converted into permanent one.
