Mangalore: Bangalore - Karwar Train Now Gets Suratkal Stop

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore, Feb 3: All those who were demanding Yeshwanthpur - Karwar train stop at Suratkal have a reason to celebrate, as their dream has been realised now. From Thursday February 2 onwards, the train will halt at Suratkal at 10 pm while departing to Bangalore from Karwar, and at 6.30 pm on the way back from Bangalore to Karwar.

The train runs on Bangalore-Karwar route on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and from Karwar to Bangalore on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The Suratkal stop is considered as 'temparary' arrangement for six months. If this stop is used effectively during this period, it will be converted into a permanent one.

Political 'War' for Credit :

As expected, the 'war' has already begun over who should take the credit for this move. Whenever there is fresh demand, or the need to address a problem faced by the people, no political party comes forward to solve the issue. But when something has been achieved, everyone is ready to claim the credit !

It is no different this time too.

According to Vijay Kumar Shetty, former MLA from Suratkal, supported by Mohiuddin Bava, youth congress leader from Suratkal Abdul Sattar, NSUI's Supraraj Malli, Sandesh Shetty, Hasanabba, Husain Katipall, Purushottam, Sulochana V Rao, were the first to celebrate the news by distributing sweets to people at Suratkal train station.

Speaking to daijiworld, Vijay Kumar Shetty said that they have been demanding the stop for Suratkal for long. "We met railway minister of state Muniyappa several times and submitted a memorandum to facilitate the stop. Our demand has been heard, we have also protested with the help of locals many times. This is our victory," he said.

On the other hand, member of parliament for Mangalore Nalin Kumar Kateel informed daijiworld that he has been constantly in touch with railway minister Muniyappa to provide a halt at Suratkal, and the facility has been granted because of his request, he said. He also urged the people of the area to use the stop effectively, so that it would be converted into permanent one.

Kerala is reaping maximum benefits from Mangalore while TN and AP are doing so with Bangalore. Guys, we are not against ppl from other states receiving benefits, but it must not be at the cost of our convenience. Mangalore has lost all its trains to Kerala and a good many of them do not stop in our state. The so called 'SUPERFAST' express trains are shuttle services in Kerala while they justify their names only after entering Karnataka with no stops here after Mangalore Junction. No train from Kerala must be allowed to enter Karnataka if stops are not provided at least in Udupi and Karwar.

When Ernakulam station which is nearly the same as Mangalore central , Yeshwantpur which is a terminus as well as a by pass station can handle so many by pass trains, why can't Mangalore central? Why is the Bangalore-Karwar train or the other trains not entering Mangalore central? Why is'nt the new Mangalore division being created under SWR? Please answer us Mr Muniyappa....

Karnataka needs 2 night trains to Karwar from Bangalore : one via Hubli and Madgaon and the other via Mangalore and Udupi. Shimoga-Honnavar track must be completed at the earliest so that trains can be operated on the direct Bangalore-Karwar route via Shimoga.

One so called new train Pune-Ernakulam bi weekly superfast train No:12520 had initially 2 stops in Maharastra,1 stop in Goa,1 stop in Karnataka(300 kms stretch)and 7 stops in Kerala.Recently it has been given 3 more stops in Maharastra. The train which was initiated by continous efforts of Pune Kannadigas along with Keralites and local people has been deprived a stoppage at Udupi where Rajdhani exp has a Stop. This is putting Pune Kannadiga,s in great difficulty specially those from coastal Karnataka.Railway minister State Mr Muniappa had promised and agreed to give a stoppage at Udupi when delegation met him before the start of this train.Even to day Udupi a important education centre, pilgrim centre as well as commercial centre has been forgotton. It is a total injustice to Karnataka as well as Coastal Karntaka people from Pune

PUBLIC DEMAND FOR THIS TRAIN IS IN THE EVENINGS AT 5.30 P M FROM KARWAR AND FROM BANGALORE ALSO IN THE EVENINGS AT 6.00 P M. BECAUSE THE TRAVELLING IN THE NIGHTTIME CAN SAVE THEIR TRAVELLING HOURS AND IT WILL BENEFICIAL TO THE COASTAL PEOPLE. IF THE AUTHORITIES CAN RECONSIDER THE TIMINGS OF THE TRAIN FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE PUBIC IT WILL BE MORE HELPFUL. PLEASE ARRANGE A STOP AT BARKUR FOR THE SURROUNDING PEOPLE OF BARKUR.
