Kolkata, Aug 15: In a shocking discovery, the body of an unidentified man was found in the tunnel of Kolkata Metro’s Blue Line during the early hours of Friday.

Metro engineering staff, while inspecting the stretch between Park Street and Esplanade stations after service hours around 2.15 am, spotted the body. New Market police were immediately informed, following which the body, believed to be of a man aged around 35, was recovered and sent for post-mortem.

Authorities are investigating how he managed to enter the tunnel without detection. His photograph has been circulated to all police stations in Kolkata and neighbouring districts in a bid to ascertain his identity.

Officials confirmed that morning metro services on the Blue Line, connecting Dakshineswar to Sahid Khudiram station near Garia, remained unaffected.
