Gajapati, Aug 15: In a shocking incident in Odisha’s Gajapati district, a man awaiting a court hearing in a domestic dispute case was tied to a tree and brutally assaulted by his in-laws. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

The victim, identified as Jalanta Baliarsingh, had been accused of assaulting his wife, Subhadra Malbisoye, nearly a year ago. Following the incident, the village panchayat had sent his wife to live with her parents for some months. Since then, Baliarsingh had been awaiting a family court hearing over their separation.

On Thursday night, while visiting his in-laws’ village to buy groceries, Baliarsingh encountered his wife’s family. A heated argument broke out, after which his in-laws allegedly tied him to a pole and beat him, leaving him there through the night.

The police freed him the following morning and have launched an investigation into the assault.
