New Delhi, Aug 27: In a shocking case of reckless driving, a 16-year-old boy has been detained after a 32-year-old man was killed when he was hit and dragged for nearly 600 metres by a speeding car in Delhi’s Outer North district on Saturday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Sujeet Mandal, who was employed at a PVC pipe factory in the Badli Industrial Area. He was returning home from work when tragedy struck. CCTV footage shows a red car ramming into him, after which the victim was dragged along the road before being dumped near the NDPL office gate number 5. His shoe was found lying at the accident spot.
Police said Mandal suffered multiple injuries and torn clothes. He was rushed to Burari Hospital but was declared dead on arrival. His body was later identified by his brother-in-law, Jitesh.
Hareshwar, DCP Outer North, said the minor driver, despite realising that the victim was trapped beneath the vehicle, continued driving before abandoning the body. Using CCTV evidence, police traced the car and confirmed that the accused was a Class 11 student.
The vehicle has been seized and an FIR has been registered under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
