Mangalore, Feb 7: SDM Post-Graduate Centre for Management Studies and Research organised a national conference on the theme 'Developing Global Mindset' here at the College premises on Monday February 6 with an objective of preparing the youth to face the challenges of the world.

Swami Shantatmanandaji, secretary, Ramakrishna Mission, New Delhi delivered the spiritual discourse as part of the day-long programme which saw various technical sessions in the morning as well as in the afternoon.

"Today's student is completely disconnected from the society. Finding out one's mission in life is itself spiritual orientation towards life. In the name of globalisation we stay away from our scriptures and culture. It's very dangerous. We need to look beyond globalisation. We need to listen to our own urgings from within," Swamiji said in his speech.

He explained how meditation helps one to de-stress. "Meditation at the highest level is a state of experience," he said.

"Everyone is suffering today because our life is fragmented. The fragments of life have no connectivity with each other," he said. "Each soul is divine. In order to become a true human being we must learn to attain infinite personality," he concluded.

Further, he answered questions raised by students and staff present during the interaction session.

Prior to the spiritual discourse, Swamiji felicitated Melvyn Rodrigues, director (operations), Daijiworld Media Pvt Ltd, who is an alumni of the college and has won the Sahitya Akademi award for his poetry collection recently.

Dr Devaraj K, principal and director, welcomed the gathering and felicitated Swamiji at the beginning.

The whole programme was inaugurated in the morning by Ajai Kumar, chairman and managing director, Corporation Bank, Mangalore. M Narendra, chairman and managing director, Indian Overseas Bank, Chennai was the chief guest and V S Chandrasekhar, country advisor, David and Lucile Packard Foundation, New Delhi was the guest of honour.
