Beltangady, Sep 4: The state intelligence department had reportedly issued a warning in 2023 about a possible conspiracy to malign Dharmasthala and its dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade through social media and YouTube. The report, now leaked and aired by electronic media, has raised questions as to why no preventive action was taken despite prior intelligence input.
Chinnayya remanded to SIT custody again
In connection with the case where Chinnayya claimed a body was buried in Dharmasthala village, the SIT produced him before the Beltangady court on Wednesday. The judge extended his custody till September 6.

As the earlier custody period ended Wednesday, Chinnayya was taken for medical examination at Beltangady government hospital and later produced before JMFC judge Vijayendra HT. Public prosecutor Divyaraj Hegde (Puttur) argued that further evidence collection required three more days of custody. Chinnayya’s counsel objected, but the court remanded him to SIT custody till September 6.
No lawyers present for Chinnayya
When produced in court, no lawyers appeared on behalf of Chinnayya. Earlier, advocates Ojaswi Gowda, Sachin S Deshpande, Ananya Gowda, Divin, and Manjunath had represented him. On Wednesday, none of them turned up. Finally, three private advocates were appointed through the legal services authority.
Uday Kumar Jain questioned by SIT
Uday Kumar Jain, previously accused in the Soujanya rape case, appeared before the SIT on Wednesday after being served notice along with Dheeraj Kella and Mallik Jain. Speaking to the media later, he said he was ready for any inquiry but alleged that the current case was being highlighted to divert attention and bury the Burude case.
Use of government officials during mahazar
The SIT has decided to use only government officials as witnesses during mahazars in Chinnayya’s case, citing concerns that members of the public could be influenced by threats or inducements. A similar approach was followed in the actor Darshan case.
YouTuber Abhishek questioned
The SIT has also summoned YouTuber Abhishek for questioning over his videos on the Sujatha Bhat case, assaults in Dharmasthala, and interviews with Chinnayya.
Complaint against Chinnayya’s lawyers
Rajendra Ajri, on behalf of Dharmasthala villagers, lodged a complaint at the Beltangady SIT office against Supreme Court advocate KV Dhananjay and his team. The complaint alleged that Chinnayya had handed over documents to Dhananjay, and the SIT must verify these records and question him. The complaint also named advocates Ojaswi Gowda, Sachin Deshpande, Divin Dheeraj, and Manjunath. The SIT has assured that it will investigate the matter, according to the complainants.
