Bengaluru, Sept 5: In a major political development, Bhovi Development Corporation chairman Ravikumar has tendered his resignation following corruption allegations and the circulation of a viral video on social media.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had reportedly instructed Ravikumar to step down immediately after the controversial video surfaced. Initially, Ravikumar had resisted the directive, creating tension within the Congress party. However, sources confirm that he finally submitted his resignation at the last moment.

Allegations and CM’s directive
The viral video alleged irregularities within the Bhovi Development Corporation. Taking serious note of the matter, CM Siddaramaiah is said to have categorically told Ravikumar to “resign and step down.” The embattled chairman had even sought a meeting with the Chief Minister soon after the video went public, but Siddaramaiah maintained a firm stance.
Ravikumar’s defence
Despite mounting pressure, Ravikumar initially refused to quit. In messages to both KPCC president D K Shivakumar and CM Siddaramaiah, he claimed innocence, stating that “AI technology was misused to tarnish my image.” He added that until a fair investigation is completed, he would not step aside. Ravikumar also expressed his intent to meet senior party leaders in Delhi to clarify his position.
Crisis in the party
His refusal to resign caused unease within Congress ranks. With the CM unwilling to meet him, Ravikumar had turned to deputy CM D K Shivakumar for support. Meanwhile, party insiders discussed the possibility of removing him from the post if he continued to defy the high command. Finally, under mounting pressure, Ravikumar submitted his resignation.
Political reactions
Reacting to the development, BJP leader Suresh Kumar remarked, “At last, he has resigned. But he kept saying he would resign only if CM or DyCM asked him to — does that mean he has no moral values? These corporations were turned into dens of corruption instead of serving the people. Wrongdoers will face the consequences.”
Minister K H Muniyappa, meanwhile, maintained that corruption allegations against corporation chairpersons were not new. “Irregularities in the Valmiki Corporation are already under investigation. Ravikumar himself must answer for the allegations against him. As a minister, I cannot reply on his behalf. Let there be a thorough probe,” he stated.
