Kasargod: 86-year-old man dies by suicide at home in Madyangallu; mental health suspected

Kasaragod, Sep 5: In a tragic incident reported from Madyangallu, Miyapadavu, an 86-year-old man allegedly died by suicide by shooting himself at his residence on Friday afternoon, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Subraya Bhat, a resident of Madyangallu. According to initial findings by the Manjeshwar Police, the victim may have been suffering from mental health issues, which could have driven him to take the extreme step.

The incident occurred while Subraya Bhat and his wife Rajamma were at home. The elderly couple lived alone, police added.

Speaking to reporters, a police official involved in the investigation said, “The family has not raised any suspicions so far. Preliminary observations suggest that the deceased had been struggling with psychological distress. However, a detailed inquiry is underway.”

Upon being informed, the Manjeshwar police arrived at the scene and conducted a spot inquest. The body was later shifted to Kannur Government Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Further investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the incident.
