Mangalore, Feb 7: Following media reports of two BJP ministers watching porn film in the Karnataka Assembly on Tuesday February 7, the district Youth Congress came out in strong protest against the ministers demanding their immediate resignation.
The protest was organised at 9.30 pm near the Mahatma Gandhi statue in front of the Mangalore City Corporation, Lalbagh, hours after the news broke.
State cooperation minister Laxman Savadi along with women and child welfare minister C C Patil were caught on cameras during the Assembly session. The clip was being allegedly watched on DK district incharge minister Krishna J Palemar's mobile phone. The sensational news has created uproar across the state and the nation, with people protesting against the ministers and the government in different parts of the state.
Speaking to daijiworld, Youth Congress south zone president Pravinchandra Alva said that the incident had brought shame to the state. "The Vidhana Soudha is like a temple. But these ministers have not only violated its sanctity, but also set a bad example for the youth. Instead of solving people's problems, they were busy watching blue film," he said.
"This is first time in the history of Indian politics that such a thing has happened. It is simply not acceptable. Moreover, mobile phones are not allowed inside the Assembly. We demand the ministers' immediate resignation and also urge the Karnataka Assembly speaker to intiate action against them, such that they will never be able to contest any election again," he said.
Expressing his concern over the incident's affect on youth, he said, "The youth are already not interested in joining politics, and if our ministers indulge in such acts, they will be further repelled."
He added, "The BJP calls itself a party with a difference. But with Malpe's 'nanga nacha' and now the blue film incident in which even our Krishna Palemar was involved, they have brought shame to the coastal districts."
Among those who took part in the protest were Youth Congress president Mithun Rai, Congress leaders Vijay Kumar Shetty, Arun Coelho, Althaf, Ivan D'Souza, Girish Alva, and many others.
