Tiruchirapalli, Sep 13: Tamil actor-turned-politician Vijay kicked off the TVK’s first-ever election campaign tour from Tiruchi on Saturday, signalling the start of a high-profile drive ahead of the 2026 Assembly polls. The campaign began with a public rally in Ariyalur, where Vijay addressed supporters after travelling from Tiruchirapalli.

The campaign bus, specially designed with cameras, loudspeakers, and protective railings, will carry Vijay across the state. TVK also unveiled its election logo, featuring slogans such as “Your Vijay, I Will Not Fail” and “Tamil Nadu, Vijay’s Legacy Returns,” highlighting his leadership appeal.

Police allowed the rally under strict guidelines, including restrictions on vehicle convoys and mandatory barricades for public safety. Authorities warned they could halt the rally if rules were violated.

Tiruchi holds symbolic importance in Tamil Nadu politics, having hosted historic events for leaders like M.G. Ramachandran and C.N. Annadurai. With Vijay’s entry into this politically significant city, supporters see the launch as a potential turning point for the state ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
