Udupi: Dr P V Bhandary chosen for Sangolli Rayanna Award 2025

Udupi, Sep 13: Social activist, thinker, and renowned psychiatrist Dr P V Bhandary has been selected for the Sangolli Rayanna Award – 2025, conferred by the Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna Abhimani Balaga (Udupi district) in association with the Kannada Sahitya Parishath, Udupi taluk unit.

The award ceremony will be held on Wednesday, September 24, at the air-conditioned hall of Yakshagana Kalaranga, IYC, Udupi, announced Siddabasayya Swami Chikkamath, president of the organization, during a press meet.

Dr Bhandary currently serves as the consultant psychiatrist and director at A V Baliga Memorial Hospital, Udupi, where he has been contributing his services for over 15 years. Known for his active role in several social movements, he has worked tirelessly for the cause of building a healthier and harmonious society. As a psychiatrist, he is credited with bringing peace and stability to the lives of thousands of people.

Over the years, Dr Bhandary has been the recipient of several honors including the best psychiatrist award, Kannada Sahitya Parishat award, District Kannada Rajyotsava award, Dr S S Jayaram award, Spandana award, and the Sanyam award presented by the Government of Karnataka, among many others.

Through lectures and public interactions, he has guided countless individuals toward living a healthy and balanced life.

Dr Bhandary completed his MBBS from JJM Medical College, Davanagere, a diploma in psychological Medicine from Manipal University, and earned his DNB in psychiatry from Fr Muller Medical College, Mangaluru.

On the occasion, Kannada Sahitya Parishath Udupi Taluk president Raviraj HP, honorary president of the Sangolli Rayanna Balaga Janardhan Kodavoor, working president Kumar Prasad, and Prasanna Hiremath were present.
