Mangalore, Feb 9: Speaking to Daijiworld, Sr Sheryl of St Joseph Higher Primary School said that all students who were admitted for food poisoning are out of danger, and one by one, they are getting discharged. A few students who are still in the hospital will be out by evening, she added.

She also said that 13 students were admitted while the others were treated in the outpatient department and sent home.

When asked about the cause for the food poisoning, she said that it could not be pointed out at this stage without enquiry. "A teacher also had lunch, but only students were affected. I do not know what happened," she said.

Earlier report

Around 50 students of St Joseph's Higher Primary School, Kankanady, have been taken ill after they consumed lunch, here on Thursday February 9.

The students have been admitted to Father Muller Hospital, and according to sources, more are being taken for treatment.

The mid-day meal for the school's students is prepared on a daily basis by a lady from Jeppu, who also caters to several others schools in the city. Though she prepared food for the entire school, only a particular section of the students fell ill.

Sources stated that it was the sambar served at lunch that led to the food poisoning.

About 200 students had taken lunch, and about 50 of them are already hospitalised. The total number of students who have fallen sick is yet to be ascertained.

Parents rushed to the school and to the hospital as soon as the news broke.

Thank GOD that they are all safe.
It is a red light warning to the
    school systems to give double
    attention about the food they
serve to the children. The food
safety and hygiene are in a critical stage, and this event
gives us stern warning to rectify
    that immediately.

This has nothing to do with value to life. Rather it has to do with integrity towards your work and service. The food should be prepared with right ingredients with right way and consumed within few hours of preparation. This can happen any where..negligence is the root cause. Care should be taken prevent such incidences. Quality can degrade any where, any day..it comes only with responsibility.

We Mangaloans have to take care of th quality of food. which is served for huge Quantity. The catering staff must be trained in proper way.Educate them and give them H.S.C Training.
Teachers please ask the students to wash thier hands and plates before taking meal, Provide the students anti bacterial soap.
If you are going to supply meal at 1.10 pm Stop the classes at 12.55 so that childrens will be ready to take a meal with clean hand and with clean Plates

Really shocking news for all of us in general parents in particular.Innocent children are the real sufferers. This is not the first incident reported. In the past too happened in many places,in the future also it will happen unless some corrective steps are not taken by the concerned.According to my observation hygienic standards are not maintained strictly not only in schools canteen even elsewhere.uncleaned vessels, dirty water, substandard raw materials, poor pay to cook/workers etc are contributing to all these kind of catastrophes. All these shortcomings are being overlooked by the concerned departments, authorities at the cost of poor students in particular, public in general.Even ambiance of school canteens, hotels, restaurants does not look good.Whom to be blamed? Here what count is profit, cost at the cost of others."Eat what we serve" Don't ask question is their motto. At least after learning so many lessons from so many incidents like that hope some concerned departments, authorities take an initiative and will look in to the matter on priority basis,do something needful which will improve the quality of the food served in school canteens and elsewhere.

I am very sad to hear this. I studied in this school from I STD to V STD i.e. in 1956 - 1961. The values and the strong foundation that I have had from this school has made me what I am today. May the God protect all the children and the School Administration.

Wishing the children a speedy recovery.
Hygiene is not maintained at all,be it hotels, catering house, dhabas or road side eateries.Authorities must do routine checks and take stringent action to put a stop to this type of incident repeating.

Water is the Main Source of Infection and food poisoning .Next is the Salads and Chatni and other Raw cut Items .Next comes food kept for a long time after cooking .As per my knowledge the Food prepared by ISCKON Can be one of the Most Hygienic to be served to the School Kids
