Mangalore, Feb 12: The new hall at Press Club was inaugurated by chief minister Sadananda Gowda here on Sunday February 12.

Speaking on the occasion Gowda said that the government has allotted Rs 25 lac for the setting up of press clubs in every district. He lauded the local media for its efforts and role in taking the city to greater heights, especially in terms of bringing social and economic change in society.

On the issue of Lokayukta, he said that the government was firm on strengthening the institution of Lokayukta and denied allegations that the government was looking for a Lokayukta who would favour its tainted ministers. He asserted that the process of appointing Lokayukta will be transperant one.

He also said that he was disappointed with some of the recent issues that had hurt the image of the government over the past few days, especially the porn video scandal that rocked the Assembly.

Though he agreed that what Krishna Palemar, C C Patil and Laxman Savadi had done in the Assembly was not right, he also pointed out that they had resigned and agreed for probe immediately.

He also informed that in March the government will bring into force the Right to Service Act.

The cabinet expansion will be done after the budget, he said and added that he has already convened a meeting with concerned departments to discuss the issue.

Among those present were state assembly deputy speaker Yogish Bhat, MLA K Abhayachandra Jain, MLA U T Khader, MLA Ramanath Rai, mayor Praveen, ZP president Shailaja Bhat, IGP Pratap Reddy, DC Chennappa Gowda, police commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh and others.

DKWJU president Harish Rai welcomed the gathering.
