Kasargod: Over 400 Take Ill After Marriage Feast

Kasargod, Feb 14: Over 400 persons, who took part in a marriage function at Paivalike near Uppala on the night of Saturday February 12, got admitted to various hospitals with complaint of food poisoning.

The marriage of Mohammed Shia, son of Hanif Haji, a Muslim league leader and public works contractor from Paivalike, was conducted with a girl from Kanhangad at the family’s home in Paivalike.

Over 400 people, who consumed Biryani and Sherbet, suffered from symptoms like nausea, dysentery, giddiness, and exhaustion. They were rushed to various hospitals including the district hospital here, primary health centre in Mangalpady, and private hospitals in Kaikamba, Uppala, and Mangalore.

Mangalpady panchayat Muslim League president, T A Moosa, secretary of Uppala unit of Muslim League, Hamza Mogral, Dharmattadka Ashraf, and scores of others including women and children suffered from food poisoning. Most of them are recovering fast, it is learnt.

A number of leaders then visited different hospitals to take care of those who got admitted there.
