Mumbai police return valuables worth over Rs 13 crore to citizens ahead of Diwali

Mumbai, Oct 23: Bringing festive cheer ahead of Diwali, the Mumbai Police have returned lost and stolen valuables worth over Rs 13 crore to their rightful owners across the city as part of a special recovery drive launched this festive season.

A grand ceremony was held at the Mukesh Patel Auditorium in Vile Parle, where valuables worth Rs 6.45 crore, recovered by Police Zones 9 and 10, were handed over to citizens. The event witnessed emotional moments as people received their mobile phones, jewellery, vehicles, and watches, describing the return of their belongings as a true “Diwali gift” from the police.

Similar initiatives were held across other city zones. In Zones 3, 4, and 5 of central Mumbai, police returned 1,464 stolen mobile phones valued at nearly Rs 3 crore, along with gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 21.87 lakh. Over 350 citizens personally collected their items during the event.

In Zone 12 (Dahisar area), police recovered 689 mobile phones, 2.25 kilograms of gold jewellery, and several vehicles. Meanwhile, Zone 8 traced valuables worth Rs 1.66 crore, including 202 missing mobiles and electronic gadgets.

Further, in Zone 2 (South Mumbai), police returned property worth Rs 1.10 crore, comprising cash, gold, and mobile phones, while in Zone 6 (Eastern Suburbs), over 8,000 lost phones were tracked, recovered, and handed back to their owners.

Senior officials said the campaign reflects the department’s commitment to public trust and citizen welfare, adding that initiatives like these reinforce faith in the police force while spreading joy during the festive season.
