New Delhi, Oct 26: In the 127th edition of his monthly radio address Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated the growing enthusiasm of India’s youth for cultural heritage, particularly their creative revival of Sanskrit through digital platforms.
Commending young creators who are blending tradition with technology, PM Modi said these innovators are giving a “modern voice” to Sanskrit, spirituality, philosophy, and music across social media.
“When we hear the word Sanskrit, we immediately think of our scriptures — the Vedas, Upanishads, Puranas, and other treasures of ancient wisdom,” the Prime Minister said. “But beyond that, Sanskrit was once a vibrant language of communication. Research, studies, and even theatrical performances were conducted in it.”

He expressed regret that Sanskrit faced long periods of neglect, both during colonial rule and after independence, leading to a gradual decline in interest among the youth. “However,” he added, “the times are changing. Social media and the world of culture have breathed new life into Sanskrit.”
Citing examples of young influencers leading this resurgence, PM Modi mentioned Yash Salunke — a cricketer and content creator whose viral video features him playing cricket while speaking in Sanskrit. He also praised sisters Kamala and Janhavi for their “fantastic” work promoting spirituality, philosophy, and music online.
The Prime Minister further highlighted popular creators like the team behind Sanskrit Chhatroham, who share both informative and humorous Sanskrit videos, and artists such as Samashti, known for her soulful Sanskrit songs. Bhavesh Bhimnathani, another young enthusiast, was lauded for explaining Sanskrit shlokas and spiritual teachings in an engaging way.
Underscoring the importance of language in preserving cultural identity, PM Modi said, “Language is the vessel that carries the values and traditions of a civilisation. For thousands of years, Sanskrit has fulfilled this role. It is heartening to see today’s youth embracing and rejuvenating this timeless legacy.”
