Agartala, Oct 26: Three people, including a tribal girl, died and another was seriously injured after a head-on collision between two speeding motorcycles in Tripura, police reported on Sunday.

The accident occurred late Saturday night at Charilam along National Highway-8 in Sepahijala district. Both motorcycles were reportedly carrying two riders each.

Local residents said the impact was so severe that it drew people out of their homes. Two mangled motorcycles and the bodies of three youths were found on the road. Locals immediately alerted the Bishramganj and Bishalgarh fire services.

Firefighters transported the injured and the deceased to the Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Hospital, while one seriously injured youth was taken to the hospital by locals in a private vehicle. A police team led by Sub-Inspector Rammohan Debbarma arrived at the site shortly after the accident.

The deceased have been identified as:

• Indrajit Das, 28
• Rakesh Debbarma, 23
• Risha Debbarma, 18

The injured, Titon Das, sustained serious injuries and was referred to Govind Ballabh Pant Medical College and Hospital in Agartala.

The collision caused a major traffic jam on the highway. Authorities noted that this stretch has witnessed several fatal accidents in recent months, including a recent early-morning death caused by a bus.

Local residents have urged authorities to install speed-control measures and warning signs on this accident-prone stretch to prevent further tragedies.
