Shillong, Oct 26: The Indian senior women’s football team will lock horns with Nepal in the final match of the Tri-Nation Women’s International Friendlies at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Shillong, on Monday at 6 p.m. IST.
For head coach Crispin Chettri, the game offers both a chance to bounce back from the 0–2 defeat to Iran and an opportunity to fine-tune preparations for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Australia 2026. “Against Iran, we weren’t at our best, but it was a learning experience,” Chettri said on Sunday. “Nepal are a different side, and we’re aiming for a stronger performance. We’ll also give opportunities to younger players so that we can build a core of 30–35 players ahead of the Asian Cup.”

Among those likely to feature are youngsters Julan Nongmaithem, the U17 captain who recently led India to Asian Cup qualification, defender Heirangkhongjam Linda Chanu, and goalkeeper Adrija Sarkhel. Forward Manisha Kalyan will remain sidelined due to illness but is recovering under medical care.
Chettri emphasised a possession-based approach and greater consistency. “We want to build from the back, control transitions, and create chances through combination play. Nepal have dangerous players like Sabitra Bhandari, so we’ll need to be alert in defence and midfield,” he said.
Forward Pyari Xaxa echoed his sentiments, promising an attacking display. “We’re eager to play Nepal and will give our best to win. Every player has a role, and we’re determined to make it count,” she said.
Nepal’s head coach Nabin Neupane acknowledged the physical challenge ahead but expressed optimism. “It’ll be tough after our loss to Iran, but the team is fit and motivated. We’ve worked on defensive shape and finishing, and matches against India are always competitive,” he noted.
The long-standing India–Nepal rivalry adds extra spice to the contest, with both sides viewing it as crucial preparation for upcoming continental commitments. Fans can stream the match live for free on plus.fifa.com.
