Mangaluru: St Dominic Parish marks Community Day, Golden Jubilee celebration

Mangaluru, Nov 22: St Dominic Church celebrated its Parish Community Day on Novemeber 12, marking the Golden Jubilee of the parish (1971-2021) with a special mass and felicitation program. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, bishop of Mangalore, was the main celebrant at the 4 pm mass.

Following the mass, the bishop blessed and inaugurated the St Dominic Church Golden Jubilee Building. The event also included the ‘Pratibha Puraskar – 2025-2026’, recognising academic achievers from 10th standard, II PUC, graduation, post-graduation, and professional studies.

During the programme, felicitations were extended to the architects, contractors, painters, electricians, and fabricators involved in the Golden Jubilee Building, as well as all donors who contributed to its construction.

The event was graced by guests of honour Fr Aquin Noronha OP, rector of St Charles Seminary, Nagpur; Ivan D’Souza, MLC, government of Karnataka; and J R Lobo, former MLA, Mangaluru South. The chief guest for the day was Fr Peter Mendonsa OP, provincial, Dominican Province of India.

The felicitation programme was presided over by Bishop Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, with Fr Daniel Veigas OP, parish priest, and Maxim Crasta, vice president of the Parish Pastoral Council, along with assistant priests, playing key roles in the event. The celebrations concluded with a fellowship meal, fostering community spirit among parishioners.
