Mangaluru, Nov 22: On the day of the feast of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity (SCCG) rejoiced as they commemorated the historic foundation of their Institute – an event so dear and significant when God chose a small seed, Bartolomea Capitanio, and nurtured it through the companionship of Vincenza Gerosa. That humble seed has since grown into a flourishing tree whose branches now extend across the world, carrying forward the Congregation’s charism of charity, through compassionate service.
‘God continues to speak, and there are still hearts ready to respond, no matter which direction the world turns.’ This enduring truth came alive today in the powerful witness of Sr Asha Jyothi Sagayaraj and Sr Sandhya Govias, who pledged their lives wholly to God, proclaiming, “I now belong to You wholly, O God,” and resolving to become steadfast witnesses of Christ’s love in the world.
The solemn Eucharistic celebration at Guardian Angel Church, Angelore, was presided over by Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, bishop of Mangalore, and concelebrated by several priests. The atmosphere was deeply moving as the assembly joined the parents of the candidates in offering their daughters for the service of the church and society. Their self-offering stood as a powerful testimony-a soul captured by God’s love and willing to journey against the current of today’s world.
A meaningful felicitation program that followed, reflected the simple joys of life - joy found in little things, in the beauty of sisterly bonding, and in celebrations free from glamour. Speaking with gratitude and admiration for the newly professed sisters, Sr Irene Menezes, the provincial superior praised their courage and faith - “When the whole world rushes forward with speed and ambition, you step back, listen, and choose what is lasting. You hold the One who holds everything. Your decision and pledge to live your life for others is a revolution of change to society”. Amid the love and warm wishes of their parents, relatives, and the Sisters of the Congregation, Sr Asha Jyothi and Sr Sandhya expressed profound joy and gratitude to the Lord who has made them His own. Indeed, it was a celebration of God’s faithfulness, of joy discovered in becoming the Lord’s instruments, and of the deep contentment that flows from total self-offering.
