Udupi, Dec 10: "Udupi district is often called the ‘Kashi of Education’. Every year, students of the district consistently secure first and second ranks in the SSLC and PUC public examinations at the state level. For the past twenty years, Pratibha Karanji competitions have been held, and Udupi should also aim for first place in co-curricular fields such as Bharatanatyam, music, elocution, debate, quiz, and drawing," said Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna. He was speaking after inaugurating the Brahmavar zone Pratibha Karanji 2025, organized at Mount Rosary English School, Santhekatte.
Kapu MLA Suresh Shetty Gurme, who was the chief guest at the event, said that if Udupi district wants to be recognized as a cultural hub, students must enthusiastically involve themselves in classical music, dance, and poetry.





Around 1,500 students from the primary, higher primary, and high schools of Brahmavar taluk participated in 37 categories of competitions.
The programme began with a grand procession from Santhekatte, where the guests were received with a poorna-kumbha welcome accompanied by the school band and escorted to the auditorium. Senior teacher Alwyn Danthy and teacher Vanitha Fernandes coordinated the overall arrangements.
Nodal officer Nagaraj Bhat delivered the introductory address. Block education officer of Brahmavar, Uma, welcomed the gathering, and Prashanth Shetty proposed the vote of thanks. Teachers Satishchandra Shetty and Jayalakshmi compered the programme.
The event was presided over by Fr Dr Roque D’Souza, parish priest of Mount Rosary Church, who blessed and wished success to all the participants. Udupi City Municipal Council president Dinakar Heroor, Karavali Development Authority member MA Gafoor, DIET Udupi principal Dr Ashok Kamath, assistant parish priest Fr Rohan, headmistress Sr Ancilla, and office-bearers of the teachers’ association were present.
