13-year-old student dies during Raigad inter-school competition in Mahad

Mahad, Dec 14: Tragedy struck the Raigad district-level inter-school competition organised by the Mahad Konkan Education Society when 13-year-old student Nidhi Sameer Mhatre from Shahabaz village, Alibag, suddenly collapsed and died on Saturday evening. The incident cast a pall of grief over the otherwise joyful and festive atmosphere of the event.

Students from various schools across Raigad had arrived in Mahad to participate in sports and cultural competitions. Nidhi was in the school grounds with her fellow participants when she suddenly felt dizzy and collapsed. Teachers and peers rushed to her aid, and she was immediately taken to a private hospital in Mahad. However, doctors declared her dead upon examination.

Her body has been sent to Mahad Rural Hospital for postmortem examination. The Mahad City Police have registered a case of sudden death and are investigating the circumstances. The exact cause of her death will be determined after the autopsy report.

Nidhi was described by her teachers as an intelligent, enthusiastic student who actively participated in academics, sports, and extracurricular activities, and was well-loved by everyone. Her sudden demise has left her family, classmates, teachers, and the entire community in deep shock.

The competition, initially a celebration of student talent and joy, was overshadowed by grief, leaving students, teachers, parents, and residents stunned. The incident has spread mourning throughout Mahad.
