Udupi, Dec 18: The ALAR Innovation, a Centre of Excellence at the Department of Computer Science, SMVITM, in association with the Alar Innovation Centre for Excellence, organised a guest talk by Dr Richard John Green, Fellow and International Faculty, School of Health Sciences, Surrey Institute for People-Centred Artificial Intelligence, University of Surrey, UK, on the topic "AI and Participatory Qualitative Methods for Complex Social Systems" on Thursday, December 4.

Dr Green addressed the audience and outlined research aimed at understanding and solving challenges in health and social care using artificial intelligence, system thinking, and simulation. He described his current work on leveraging agent-based modelling and participatory methods to explore neglected areas in care provision and access, including primary, community, palliative, unpaid, and integrated care.

His research interests lie at the intersection of aging, health, and care, with a particular focus on the complex and often under-researched experiences of older adults and unpaid caregivers. He spoke about his broader interests, which include aging, chronic illness, multimorbidity, and digital health inequity.

Finally, he welcomes contact from potential doctoral researchers interested in these or related areas and is keen to support interdisciplinary and/or international collaborations.

Dr Sachin Bhat, dean, Research and Consultancy, SMVITM, coordinated the event, and Raghavendra G S, assistant professor (Sr), compered the programme. The programme was attended by faculty members from the Niramaya Institute of Health Science and various departments of SMVITM.
