Udupi, Dec 18: "The allegation that the police misbehaved with a young woman named Akshata Poojary within the Brahmavar police station limits is completely false. The police did not enter her house at all. I was also present along with the police. The allegations made against them are baseless," said Devendra Suvarna.
Addressing a press conference on December 18, Devendra Suvarna said that injustice has been done to him in this case. "Akshata Poojary is making false allegations on a large-scale against the police and me in a manner that misleads everyone. The truth will come out today or tomorrow," he said.

Regarding the court matter, he said, "When the police went to the house of a person named Ashiq, I was accompanying them. The police did not assault Akshata Poojary in any manner. I was standing some distance from Akshata’s house. The police also did not enter the house. In this regard, the police have video recordings as evidence. However, allegations are now being made against me and the police, which is unfair to me. The truth will come out sooner or later," Devendra Suvarna said.
Devendra Suvarna, said, “In the accident that happened in the year 2014, I suffered permanent health issues, as the opposite bike involved in the accident had no valid driving licence and insurance. The honourable court after seven years of trial ordered that compensation to be paid to me by the rider Ashiq and owner of the bike. As they failed to respond to the court warrants issued multiple times and also due to delay and evading the case, my signature was forged and false vakalath was filed. I have filed a complaint regarding this, which is still under consideration.”
Devendra stated that when the enquiry was done at Ashiq’s house in Malpe, the family members did not respond. He stated that the accused is being protected by his family members and the accused keeps changing his mobile number.
Devendra also alleged that false assault allegations were posted on social media by relatives of the accused to defame him and demoralize the police officials.
Due to the accident, Devendra said, he was bedridden for three years, underwent 18 hospitalisations and now suffers multiple permanent disabilities. He has been unable to continue his fishing profession, leaving his family in severe financial distress. Despite this the accused constructed a new house worth lacs, while refusing to pay compensation.
The press conference was attended by Shakunthala, Devendra’s wife and Paddu, Devendra’s mother.
