Tata Group bets big on iPhone manufacturing in India

Daijiworld Media Network - New Delhi

New Delhi, Dec 18: In a significant development for India’s electronics manufacturing landscape, the Tata Group has committed Rs 1,500 crore to Tata Electronics, strengthening its role in Apple’s iPhone production ecosystem in the country. The investment, disclosed through a regulatory filing, highlights Tata’s growing confidence in high-end electronics manufacturing and the long-term potential of contract production for global tech giants.

Tata Electronics, which already engages in contract manufacturing of iPhones for Apple, is expected to leverage this capital infusion to expand production capacity, enhance technology capabilities, and support localisation of components. Industry analysts said the move aligns with India’s broader strategy of boosting domestic manufacturing under initiatives such as Make in India and supply-chain diversification amid global shifts in production hubs.

The investment also comes as demand for smartphones continues to surge across India and overseas markets, making the country an increasingly attractive destination for tech firms seeking cost-effective and scalable manufacturing bases. Observers believe this could pave the way for deeper collaboration between Indian conglomerates and multinational companies in the electronics sector.
