Mumbai BJP MLA Parag Shah slaps rickshaw driver amid traffic row

Mumbai, Dec 21: A video showing BJP MLA from Ghatkopar (East), Parag Shah, slapping a rickshaw driver has gone viral. The incident reportedly occurred late Friday after the driver allegedly drove on the wrong side of the road.

According to BJP sources, Shah confronted the driver about his rush, prompting the MLA to slap him. The rickshaw driver’s passenger reportedly had asked him not to violate traffic rules.

Mumbai Congress chief MP Varsha Gaikwad condemned the incident on X, accusing BJP MLAs of using violence against working-class citizens. “BJP MLAs have become so arrogant that they don’t spare poor rickshaw drivers. This is the real BJP… rolling out the red carpet for industrialists while harassing the common people,” she wrote.

Shah defended his actions, stating that residents had repeatedly complained about rickshaws and motorcycles breaking traffic rules and encroaching on footpaths. “Traffic and local police don’t pay attention. During our protest against traffic violations, a rickshaw entered M G Road the wrong way. When I asked why, the driver said he was in a hurry,” Shah said.

The Tilak Nagar police confirmed that they are reviewing the video and investigating the matter.
