Media Release

Udupi, Dec 23: The department of mathematics in association with the faculty chapter of Indian Society of Technical Education (ISTE) and IEEE of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology & Management (SMVITM), Bantakal organised an invited talk on the topic 'Recurrence Relation and Time Complexity' on December 22 on the occasion of 'National Mathematics Day' to commemorate 138th birthday of the great Indian Mathematician Shri Srinivasa Ramanujan.

Dr P Sam Johnson, professor, department of mathematical and computational sciences, NITK, Surathkal was the resource person.

In his talk he introduced some interesting and classical problems of mathematics to students. The session focused on the idea of recurrence relations and how complex problems can be solved by breaking them into simpler steps. Famous problems such as the Tower of Hanoi were discussed to explain logical thinking and mathematical reasoning. The historical background of these problems helped students understand the evolution of mathematical ideas. The speaker also explained how mathematics connects patterns, geometry, and problem-solving techniques. Concepts like mathematical induction and closed-form solutions were briefly introduced. Real-life relevance and applications of mathematics in science and computing were highlighted. The lecture encouraged students to think analytically and develop problem-solving skills. Overall, the session made Mathematics Day informative, engaging, and inspiring for the students.

Dr Radhakrishna S Aithal, ceo, Sode group of institutions, welcomed the chief guest with a bouquet of flowers. The students who scored 100 marks in Engineering Mathematics were honored by the institution.

The program was compered by Arpitha M Thantry of second year AI&DS. Nearly 200 students, faculty and staff members attended the programme.
