Vasco, Dec 24: The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) has directed fish vendors in Vasco to vacate their temporary shed by January 29, in preparation for relocation to the newly completed fish market.

Local MLA Krishna Salkar confirmed that the new facility is now ready and all pending issues related to its operations have been resolved, allowing vendors to move into the upgraded premises.

MMC Chairperson Girish Borker stated that official notices have been issued to the vendors regarding the vacating of the temporary structure. He noted that the Council has been paying an annual rent of ?5 lakh to the Revenue Department for the land occupied by the temporary shed, and the shift to the new market would help reduce this financial burden.

The relocation marks the final phase of a long-awaited infrastructure upgrade for Vasco’s fish trade. The new market is expected to provide better hygiene, modern facilities, and enhanced convenience for both vendors and customers, ushering in a new era for the city’s seafood trade.
