Pune, Dec 24: A 34-year-old man was allegedly murdered with a sharp weapon for being in a relationship with a woman from another faith, police said on Wednesday, adding that a search is on for the woman’s brother and his accomplice.
The deceased has been identified as Javed Khwajamiyan Pathan (34), a native of Bhokar in Nanded district, who worked at an automobile servicing centre in Pune. Police said the main accused is the woman’s brother, Sandeep Bhurke (25), a security guard, who was opposed to the relationship. His accomplice is yet to be identified.

According to police, the incident occurred around 6.45 pm on Monday at Gaimukh Chowk in Ambegaon. An FIR was registered on Tuesday at Ambegaon police station based on a complaint filed by Raud Usman Shaikh (35), a relative of the deceased and Pathan’s co-worker.
Shaikh stated that Bhurke and another person came to the automobile service centre, abused Pathan and then assaulted him. During the attack, Pathan was struck with a sharp weapon, resulting in fatal injuries.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) Milind Mohite said initial investigations revealed that Pathan was in a relationship with the accused’s sister and the two had been living together in the Narhe area for a few days. “The accused was strongly opposed to the relationship,” he said.
Police further said Pathan had been living in Pune until about 10 months ago, after which he returned to his native place in Bhokar. He had come back to Pune along with the woman less than two weeks before the incident.
Several teams have been formed to trace and arrest the accused, police added.
