Khopoli, Dec 28: A shocking murder in Khopoli city of Raigad district has sent shockwaves across the region. The husband of Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) corporator Mansi Kalokhe was brutally murdered two days ago, triggering widespread outrage. After Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde met the bereaved family on Friday, Raigad police intensified the probe and arrested nine suspected accused in connection with the crime.
Meanwhile, chilling CCTV footage of the murder has surfaced, capturing the entire sequence of events and revealing the extreme brutality with which Mangesh Kalokhe was killed in broad daylight. The visuals are disturbing and show the attack unfolding on a public road.
According to the CCTV footage, the incident occurred in the morning when Kalokhe was returning home after dropping his daughters at school. His car was first intercepted, and within seconds the situation escalated as the attackers pounced on him. The footage shows Kalokhe attempting to defend himself and trying to flee, looking around desperately for help. The visuals have left viewers shaken, highlighting the ruthless manner in which he was chased and attacked.
Police said the accused fled immediately after committing the crime, leading to intense public anger in Khopoli and strong demands for their immediate arrest. Given the sensitive nature of the case, Raigad police assured the victim’s family that the culprits would be apprehended at the earliest.
To track down the absconding accused, five special police teams were formed. Investigators conducted an extensive technical and ground-level probe. During the investigation, it emerged that the accused had switched off their mobile phones after the crime and fled towards Mumbai and other locations. Police also identified additional individuals who allegedly assisted the main accused in evading arrest.
Despite the challenge of tracing their whereabouts due to the lack of concrete location inputs, the police teams used technical expertise and sustained efforts to successfully track down and arrest the absconding suspects.
Further investigation into the motive and wider conspiracy behind the murder is ongoing, police said.
