Mysuru, Dec 28: In a daring, film-style heist carried out in broad daylight, armed robbers looted gold and diamond jewellery worth an estimated Rs 4 to Rs 5 crore from a jewellery showroom in Hunsur taluk of Mysuru district on Saturday, triggering panic among locals.

The incident occurred at Sky Golds and Diamonds, located behind the Hunsur bus stand. According to police sources, five masked miscreants arrived on motorcycles, barged into the showroom and threatened the staff at gunpoint. The gang forcibly collected gold and diamond ornaments, stuffed them into bags and fled the scene within minutes.

The sudden daylight robbery left shop employees and nearby residents shocked. On receiving information, police rushed to the spot and launched an investigation. CCTV footage from the showroom and surrounding areas is being examined to trace the accused.

The jewellery showroom is owned by a Kerala-based businessman and was inaugurated on April 27, 2015. Following the incident, inspector general of police Boralingaiah and additional superintendent of police Nagesh visited the showroom, conducted an inspection and reviewed the progress of the investigation.

A manhunt has been launched to nab the accused, and police have intensified security and vehicle checks in and around Hunsur and neighbouring areas.
