Moodbidri: Priest Sukumara Acharya passes away following cardiac arrest

Moodbidri, Dec 28: Well-known priest Sukumara Acharya (42), a resident of Kutyaru, passed away following a heart attack at his residence near Surya Chaitanya School in Padukutyaru on Sunday morning. He is survived by his mother, wife, son and daughter.

Sukumara Acharya was a disciple of late Rudraiah Purohita, a prominent figure of Alangaru Sri Ayyaswamy Matha. He later served alongside administrator B Vishwanath Acharya and grew into a respected Vedic priest. He rendered dedicated service as Brahmavahaka at several prominent temples including Moodbidri Sri Gurumatha Kalikamba Temple, Mangaluru Sri Kalikamba Vinayaka Temple, Barkur Sri Kalikamba Temple and Katapadi Sri Kalikamba Vishwakarmeshwara Temple.

Condolences poured in from Moodbidri Sri Gurumatha Kalikamba Temple administration trustee M K Balakrishna Acharya, temple Tantri Purohita N Keshava Acharya, office-bearers of various committees, Alangaru Sri Ayyaswamy Matha administrator B Vishwanath Acharya, members of the Matha renovation committee, and members of the Moodbidri Vaidika Samrakshana Sabha, who mourned the untimely demise of the young priest.

In view of the demise of Sukumara Acharya, the general body meetings of Moodbidri Sri Kalikamba Seva Samiti and Sri Kalikamba Mahila Samiti scheduled to be held on Sunday were postponed as per the decision of the temple administration committee.
