Crime numbers rise in Goa: Police data shows monthly average of murders and rape cases in 2025

Panaji, Dec 29: Goa recorded a worrying rise in crime during 2025, with official police statistics indicating an average of two murder cases and nine rape cases being reported every month across the state.

Police data reveals that up to December 21, 2025, as many as 2,050 criminal cases were registered, reflecting an increase compared to the previous year. Investigations have been completed in 1,794 of these cases, according to officials.

While the majority of cases have been solved, police acknowledged that suspects involved in three robbery cases remain at large. Special teams are continuing efforts to track down and arrest the absconding accused.

The surge in crime has triggered concern among residents and civil society groups, prompting renewed demands for stricter law enforcement, improved preventive strategies, and quicker completion of investigations to ensure public safety and maintain law and order in the state.
