Panaji, Dec 31: Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão, Archbishop of Goa and Daman, extended heartfelt New Year greetings, praying for blessings, family peace, community harmony, and unity across Goa and the nation as 2026 begins.

In his message, the Cardinal expressed concern over the rising sense of insecurity among minority communities, highlighting attacks on Christians during recent Christmas celebrations in parts of India. He described these incidents as deeply painful and contrary to India’s long-standing tradition of religious tolerance and cultural coexistence.

Cardinal Ferrão emphasized that such acts harm Christian communities and erode the nation’s moral fabric. He reminded that the Constitution guarantees the free practice of religion, yet some communities continue to face harassment for observing their festivals, sometimes with tacit approval from authorities.

Urging decisive and impartial action, he called on authorities to uphold their constitutional duties and ensure justice, restoring public faith in democratic values. He also appealed to citizens committed to harmony, justice, and mutual respect to resist divisive forces and strengthen national unity.
