Elderly woman’s skeletal remains found in Dharbandora forest

Ponda, Jan 6: Collem police have recovered skeletal remains of an 85-year-old woman from a forested area near Kumbharwada in Sacorda village of Dharbandora taluka.

The skeletal remains, including a skull suspected to be human, were noticed in the forest on Saturday. Clothes and a wooden stick were also found at the spot. Based on the clothing, Ulhas Vadkar (53), a resident of Kumbharwada, identified the remains as that of his mother, Lilavati Babuso Vadkar (85), who had been missing.

Following the identification, Collem police retrieved the skeletal remains and sent them for autopsy at the South Goa District Hospital in Margao. After completion of the procedure, the remains were handed over to the family for last rites.

Police have registered a case of unnatural death under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, and further investigation is underway.
