British woman found dead in Canacona rented room, investigation underway

Canacona, Jan 10: A 61-year-old British national, Katherine Mary Babington, was found dead on Friday in a rented room at Galgibaga, Canacona.

According to police, Katherine’s sister, Rosemary Patricia, discovered her unresponsive at around 9 a.m. and immediately called for medical help. She was rushed to the Canacona Community Health Centre, where the attending doctor declared her dead.

Authorities reported that Katherine had been experiencing breathing problems, was on medication, and had been residing in the rented accommodation for the past four months.

Following the recovery of the body and an inquest panchnama, police sent the remains to the South District Hospital in Margao for medico-legal formalities.

Canacona police have registered the case as an unnatural death under Section 174 of the BNS. The investigation is being conducted by PSI Babu Desai under the supervision of PI Harish Raut Desai.
