'A Separation' Wins Best Foreign Film Oscar

Los Angeles, Feb 27 (IANS): Iranian film "A Separation" walked away with the golden statuette for the best foreign film at the 84th Academy Awards.

"A Separation" beat Belgium's "Bullhead", Canada's Monsieur Lazhar, Israel's "Footnote" and Poland's "In The Darkness" for the prestigious award. The film had also won this year's Golden Globe in the same category.

Directed by Asghar Farhadi, the movie narrates the story of a married couple faced with a difficult decision -- to improve the life of their child by moving to another country or to stay in Iran and look after a deteriorating parent who has Alzheimer's.

India's official entry to the Oscars this year -- Malayalam film "Adaminte Makan Abu", had failed to make it even to the top nine shortlist for the best foreign film Oscar for 2011.
