Mangaluru, Jan 27: St Aloysius College Higher Primary School celebrated the 77th Republic Day with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour. The event commenced with a grand welcome for the dignitaries, led by the school band marching in perfect synchrony, creating an atmosphere of pride and unity as the guests were escorted to the stage.

The students of class 3 extended a warm welcome to the chief guest, Nelson Francis Pinto, an alumnus of the institution and an officer from the RBS Cell, Karnataka Bank Limited and Jessica Pinto. The headmistress, Jositta Noronha, formally welcomed the chief guest by presenting him a sapling as a token of respect.

The celebration was graced by the presence of the headmistress Jositta Noronha, assistant headmistress Liya D’Souza, PTA vice president Mohammad Iqbal, parents, teachers, supporting staff and students.

The programme began with a soulful rendition of the prayer song ‘Vande Mataram,’ setting a reverent tone for the day. This was followed by the headmistress leading the dignitaries to the flagpole, where Nelson Francis Pinto had the honour of unfurling the National Flag. The unfurling of the flag was marked with due respect, followed by a salute and the singing of the National Anthem.

Students Mohamed Mursi and Ayesha Nimra highlighted the significance of Republic Day, emphasizing India’s journey towards becoming a sovereign, socialist, secular and democratic republic. The school choir then presented a melodious patriotic song that resonated deeply with the audience, evoking a strong sense of national pride and unity.

In his inspiring address, Nelson Francis Pinto conveyed his heartfelt Republic Day wishes and spoke about the importance of the Constitution, which enshrines the values of justice, equality and fraternity. He introduced the concept of CARD, explaining that C stands for Cleanliness, A for Aim, R for Respect and D for Discipline, stressing that these are values every child must follow to grow into responsible and disciplined citizens. He further emphasized the need to understand and uphold fundamental rights while practising these values in daily life.

Seeking to foster a culture of attentive listening, he turned his interactions into a live quiz, honouring those with right answers with instant prizes.

Following his address, a yoga session was conducted for the Yoga Club students by Yoga instructor Kulshalappa Gowda, highlighting the importance of physical fitness, mental well-being and discipline as essential components of a balanced and responsible life.

The winners of the Republic Day swimming competition held at St Aloysius Swimming Pool were honoured by the dignitaries.

A graceful dance performance by the students, centred on the theme of patriotism, added a vibrant and colourful touch to the celebration, leaving the audience mesmerized.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Janilia Vaz, expressing gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of the event. The entire programme was seamlessly compered by the students of class 5 – Rishik Padmunja, Eleana Anglea Pinto and Grishma, whose coordination and presentation skills were commendable.

The 77th Republic Day celebration at St Aloysius College Higher Primary School was a memorable occasion that instilled a profound sense of patriotism, discipline and unity among all present, showcasing the school’s commitment to nurturing responsible and proud citizens of India.
