Lucknow, Jan 30: In a fresh case of leopard attack reported from Bahraich district on Thursday, a six-year-old girl was killed after being attacked by the feline while she was playing inside her house.

The incident took place at Mukhiya Farm village under the Nishangadha range of the Katarniaghat wildlife sanctuary. Locals said the leopard entered the house, grabbed the child identified as Anushka, and dragged her towards nearby sugarcane fields.

Hearing the family’s cries for help, villagers rushed to the spot and raised an alarm, following which the leopard reportedly left the girl and fled into the fields. Her body was later recovered around 50 metres away from the house in a sugarcane field.

Forest Range Officer Surendra Srivastava said vigil in the area has been increased following the incident.

The girl sustained severe injuries on her neck and face and died while being taken to the hospital.
