Mangaluru, Feb 1: Ladyhill English Medium Higher Primary School (ICSE) solemnly observed Martyrs’ Day on January 30, honouring the supreme sacrifice of the nation’s heroes and remembering Mahatma Gandhi, the apostle of peace and non-violence. The programme was meaningfully organised by the students of Grade 4 C.

The programme was graced by the presence of the chief guest, Captain Ganesh Karnik, state spokesperson – BJP Karnataka, former MLC, South West Teachers’ Constituency. The occasion was presided over by the principal, Sr Jenifer Moras AC, and was further dignified by the presence of the vice principals, Sr Joycelyn AC and Lavita Correa. The school was also honoured by the presence of the special guests, Sushil Palanna and Nelson Castelino, vice presidents, BJP Minority Morcha, Mangalore South.

The observance began with a prayer service, invoking god’s blessings for the nation and paying homage to the martyrs. This was followed by a floral tribute, during which the dignitaries offered flowers before the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi in respectful remembrance.

A graceful welcome dance beautifully set the tone for the programme. The chief guest was then formally introduced by Keerthi, highlighting his distinguished service to the nation.

The students then spoke on the importance of Martyrs’ Day, reminding the audience that the freedom we enjoy today is the result of countless sacrifices. A soulful patriotic song and a meaningful theme dance followed, portraying the ideals of unity, courage, and national integrity.

One of the most impactful segments of the programme was the short play “Gandhiji’s Three Wise Monkeys,” which creatively reinforced Gandhiji’s timeless message of moral discipline. This was followed by reflections on the great peacemaker’s words, urging everyone to uphold truth, moral courage, and responsible citizenship in daily life.

The highlight of the programme was a powerful soldiers’ dance drama, paying tribute to the courage, struggles, and sacrifices of soldiers guarding our borders. An energetic patriotic dance once again stirred the spirit of nationalism among the audience.

In his address, Captain Ganesh Karnik spoke eloquently about the significance of Martyrs’ Day, the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi, and the relevance of peace and non-violence in today’s world. Sharing insights from his own experience in the army, he reminded the students that along with remembering past martyrs, we must also honour the soldiers who continue to protect the nation with selfless commitment.

The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks, followed by the National Anthem, sung with pride and reverence. The entire programme was confidently and gracefully compered by master Chirag S Devadiga and Jessica Jeena Gabriella.

The observance of Martyrs’ Day was not merely a ceremonial event, but a profound learning experience that instilled gratitude, respect, and patriotism in the young minds of Ladyhill.
