Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Mar 2: The people of coastal Karnataka interested to undertake pilgrimage to temple towns Tirupati and Tirumala have a reason to cheer, as the railways department has begun direct train service between the city and Tirupati stations. This train will run once a week.

The train will begin its onward journey at 10.45 pm every Saturday and move via Kasargod, Kannur, Kozhikode, Shoranur Junction, Coimbatore, Erode, Katpady Junction, and Chittoor, to reach Tirupati at 2.35 pm on Sundays.

The train will run further to Satragath Junction in Madhya Pradesh, crossing Odisha on its way. On its return journey, the train will start from Satragath Junction at 4.05 pm on Thursdays, and reach Tirupati at 5.10 pm on Fridays. It will reach the city at 9.45 am on Saturdays.

President of Railway Yatri Sangha, R L Dias, said that the coast has, for the first time, been connected directly with Tirupati, and that the pilgrims from Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts can also make use of this train by reaching Mangalore through trains.

The train (No.22852) named Vivek Express is to Santragachi in West Bengal and not Satragath in Madhya Pradesh.

This train was proposed by Ex-Railway Minister Ms. Mamta Banerjee for the benefit of the migrant labourers from West Bengal, who are working in the construction sites in Coastal Kerala / Karnataka.

As the intention for the introduction of the train was to help the labourers, the Tirupati pilgrims will have to wait for 4 days to get the return train to Mangalore. However, there are 2 return trains to Bangalore departing from Tirupati (originating from Howrah& Hatia) after 10 p.m.

It is a wonderful gift from Railway.I visited Tirupati twice(manglore-bangalore-tirupati).Now I wanted to visit but very long journey by bus made to postpone my idea. But Mr.Ahmed raised valid point. If we go by train, then it consumes 7 days as train facility is once in a week.Again,I have to postpone my idea of visiting..

Timings are such, those people who wish to travel by this train to and from Tirupati, will have to spend 4 nights in Tirupati and around places. Pilgrims will reach Tirupati on Sunday afternoon and they can catch the return train only on Thursdays afternoon. I hope Indian railways will increase the frequencies of trains on in route in near future.
