St Aloysius Deemed to be University hosts online workshop on IPR, patent and design filing

Mangaluru, Feb 20: An online workshop on “Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) & Patents and Design Filing” was conducted on February 20, at the Eric Mathias Hall of St Aloysius Deemed to be University.

The programme was organised by the School of Commerce, Finance and Accountancy in association with Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Intellectual Property Management (RGNIIPM), Government of India, Nagpur, under the National IP Awareness Mission (NIPAM).

The session was led by Kumar Raju, assistant controller of Patents & Designs at RGNIIPM, Nagpur. In his detailed presentation, he explained the key concepts of intellectual property rights, including patents, design protection, trademarks, geographical indications, copyright and trade secrets.

The resource person also highlighted common mistakes made by inventors and emphasised the importance of safeguarding innovations before publication to avoid loss of exclusive rights. He guided participants through the basic procedures involved in IPR filing and the significance of timely registration.

The workshop created awareness among students and faculty members about intellectual property protection and encouraged them to explore opportunities in the fields of innovation and patenting.

Dr Caroleena Janefer and Dr Bharathi served as the convenors of the programme.
