Udupi, Feb 28: The department of Basic Sciences, in association with the co-curricular cell, IEE, and the Institutions Innovation Council (IIC), organised National Science Day 2026 at Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology & Management, Bantakal, on February 28 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sir C V Raman and to celebrate the spirit of scientific innovation and research.
Dr K Jyothi Dhamodara, professor and dean- student welfare, St Joseph Engineering College, the chief guest, delivered an inspiring address on the pivotal role of science in the development of technology and the innovation ecosystem. She emphasised that scientific research serves as the backbone of technological advancement and national progress. Highlighting the importance of National Science Day, she reflected on the contributions of Indian scientists, especially Sir C V Raman, and encouraged students to cultivate curiosity, analytical thinking, and a research-oriented mindset.


As part of the celebration, she delivered the National Science Day lecture on the theme “Women in Science: Catalysing Viksit Bharat.” In her lecture, she highlighted the remarkable contributions of women scientists in shaping India's scientific landscape and emphasised the need to create inclusive opportunities in STEM fields. She spoke about breaking gender stereotypes, strengthening mentorship networks, and providing institutional support to encourage greater participation of women in research and innovation.
She further noted that empowering women in science is essential for achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat, as diversity in scientific research leads to more comprehensive solutions to national and global challenges. Her lecture motivated students, especially young women, to pursue careers in science and technology with confidence and determination.
Dr Radhakrishna S Aithal, CEO of the Sode Group of Institutions, addressed the gathering on the occasion and delivered an inspiring message to the students. He emphasized the importance of cultivating scientific thinking, rational inquiry, and an innovative mindset among young minds to meet the challenges of the modern world.
Dr Nagaraj Bhat, principal, warmly welcomed the chief guest, dignitaries, faculty members, and students to the National Science Day celebration and highlighted the significance of commemorating the occasion in fostering scientific awareness and innovation among young minds.
