Mega blood donation drive organised at SMVITM, Bantakal

Udupi, Mar 25: A mega blood donation drive organised at Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management (SMVITM), Bantakal, witnessed an overwhelming response, with more than 140 units of blood collected. The initiative was conducted by the NSS-YRC Unit of the institute in collaboration with the KMC Blood Centre, Manipal.

The drive was inaugurated by Dr Ganesh Mohan, professor & head, Department of IHBT KMC, Kasturba Hospital Blood Centre Manipal who attended as the chief guest. Addressing the gathering, he highlighted the importance of voluntary blood donation in saving lives and appreciated the institution’s consistent efforts toward humanitarian causes.

The event was presided over by Dr Radhakrishna Aithal, who lauded the enthusiasm and selfless spirit displayed by the students. He emphasised that such initiatives reflect the institution’s strong commitment to social responsibility.

Among others present were Dr Sudharshan Rao (dean Academics) and Sachin Prabhu (NSS coordinator) and NSS volunteers. The drive recorded around 230 registrations from willing donors. After thorough medical screening, over 140 participants successfully donated blood, contributing significantly to the region’s blood reserves.

The event not only addressed an essential healthcare need but also fostered awareness about the importance of regular voluntary blood donation among youth.
