New Delhi, Mar 29: Two Indian LPG carriers, BW TYR and BW ELM, carrying a combined total of approximately 94,000 metric tonnes of LPG, have safely transited the Gulf region and are now en route to Indian ports, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways reported on Sunday.

BW TYR is expected to arrive in Mumbai on March 31, while BW ELM is scheduled to reach New Mangalore on April 1. Authorities confirmed that all necessary safety and security measures for Indian vessels and seafarers in the Gulf region remain in place, with no incidents reported in the past 24 hours.

Currently, 18 Indian-flagged vessels with 485 Indian seafarers are operating in the western Persian Gulf. The Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping), in coordination with ship owners, RPSL agencies, and Indian Missions, is actively monitoring maritime operations around the clock. Since the activation of its control room, DG Shipping has handled 4,523 calls and 8,985 emails, including 92 calls and 120 emails in the past 24 hours.

So far, over 942 Indian seafarers have been safely repatriated, including four in the last 24 hours. Port operations across India continue to function normally, with state maritime boards in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Puducherry reporting no congestion.

The Ministry of Ports and Shipping, in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs and Indian Missions, is ensuring uninterrupted maritime operations while safeguarding seafarer welfare. Indian Missions in the Gulf and West Asia are maintaining 24x7 contact with the Indian community, issuing advisories, and providing assistance to seafarers, students, stranded nationals, and short-term visitors, including visa and logistical support.

The Ministry emphasized that the evolving situation in the Gulf is being closely monitored, with the safety, security, and welfare of Indian citizens prioritized. A dedicated special control room remains operational to assist nationals and maintain coordination with states and union territories.

This proactive approach underscores India’s commitment to the welfare of its seafarers and citizens amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in the region.
