Mangaluru, Apr 4: The Department of Child Health Nursing, Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences (NUINS), organised a first-aid training programme on managing emergencies of school children for the teachers of Infant Mary English Medium High School, Katipalla, on April 4.
The programme began with a prayer, followed by the inaugural proceedings led by Francis J B D’Cunha. The principal of Infant Mary English Medium High School, the chief guest for the occasion, addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance of first aid knowledge among teachers.
The principal appreciated Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences for organizing such a meaningful and socially relevant training initiative aimed at saving lives. Prof Dr Sujatha R, head of the department of Child Health Nursing, NUINS, was present on the occasion.






The programme commenced with a welcome address by Sonia D’Mello, faculty of Infant Mary English Medium High School. The training sessions were conducted by Prof Dr Sujatha R, Dr Sharlet Simple D’Souza, and Jeevitha Alva, faculty members of the Department of Child Health Nursing, Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences.
The workshop covered essential first aid topics such as bandaging techniques, fracture management, and emergency care for choking, drowning, seizures, bites, and electric shock. Participants were also trained in haemorrhage control and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
The sessions emphasised practical demonstrations and active participation, enabling teachers to develop confidence and skills to handle emergency situations effectively among school children.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Shamita D’Souza, faculty of Infant Mary English Medium High School who expressed gratitude to the organizers, resource persons, school authorities, and participants for their support and cooperation in making the programme a success.
The programme was well-received by the participants and highlighted the importance of equipping educators with life-saving skills to ensure the safety and well-being of students.
